چکیده

Soft lithographic methods based on poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) for pattern transfer are established alternatives to conventional lithographic methods. For applications in the biological sciences functionalized and structured noble metal surfaces are required. In order to allow for rapid prototyping of such gold structures a method is needed that does not change the surface chemistry. This can be achieved by a microfluidic system on a gold substrate that is filled with an etchant. From theoretical considerations simple thumb rules for the geometric and chemical design of such a micro fluidic system were established. For experimental testing a microfluidic system was realized by contacting a structured PDMS stamp with a substrate consisting of a 50-nm-thick gold layer on a glass object slide. The etchant was applied to the entrance of the capillary and the acid was drawn into the fluidic system by capillary forces. Taking advantage of a PDMS stamp structured wetting and non-wetting regions no additional self-assembled monolayer was needed for masking.

Rapid prototyping of microfluidic devices with a wax printer.

We demonstrate a rapid and inexpensive approach for the fabrication of high resolution poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)-based microfluidic devices. The complete process of fabrication could be performed in several hours (or less) without any specialized equipment other than a consumer-grade wax printer. The channels produced by this method are of high enough quality that we are able to demonstrate...

Maskless and resist-free rapid prototyping of three-dimensional structures through electron beam induced deposition (EBID) of carbon in combination with metal-assisted chemical etching (MaCE) of silicon.

In this work, we introduce a maskless, resist-free rapid prototyping method to fabricate three-dimensional structures using electron beam induced deposition (EBID) of amorphous carbon (aC) from a residual hydrocarbon precursor in combination with metal-assisted chemical etching (MaCE) of silicon. We demonstrate that EBID-made patterned aC coating, with thickness of even a few nanometers, acts a...

Microfluidic Devices Made of Uv-curable Glue (noa81) for Fluorescence Detection Based Applications

The UV-curable adhesive NOA81 (Norland Optical Adhesive) is a promising liquid photopolymer for low-cost microfluidic chip production. Different fabrication methods for NOA81 are suggested [1,2]. However, optical characterization for fluorescent based detection systems is missing. We present a comparison of fluorescent emission spectra of various NOA types as well as the time evolution of the s...

Rapid fabrication of polymer microfluidic systems for the production of artificial lipid bilayers

A polymer microfluidic device has been fabricated using rapid prototyping techniques. The device was built to allow the formation and subsequent investigation of artificial bilayer lipid membranes (BLMs). A simple dry film photoresist stamp was used to hot emboss microfluidic channels into PMMA films. Laser micromachining was employed to form an aperture through the PMMA channels, across which ...

Fabrication of High-Aspect-Ratio 3D Hydrogel Microstructures Using Optically Induced Electrokinetics

We present a rapid hydrogel polymerization and prototyping microfabrication technique using an optically induced electrokinetics (OEK) chip, which is based on a non-UV hydrogel curing principle. Using this technique, micro-scale high-aspect-ratio three-dimensional polymer features with different geometric sizes can be fabricated within 1–10 min by projecting pre-defined visible light image patt...
